Fitness Reflections (Pond Relay Races)

Today for our last fitness day of 2014 we did some relay races by the pond. It reminded me of a track and field training because we ran some 4 by 400, 4 by 200, and 4 by 800. I'm happy with myself because I never once stopped to walk; I ran each lap. I am also proud of my consistent pace when running the 800m which was 2 laps around the pond. I also spent 3 hours at the Y working out and dancing with my friends so I feel that I got a good workout today. I feel accomplished with my effort today and hope to stay this persistent in the new year.

Beep Test #3 results

Today for fitness Tuesday we did the beep test. Last week on Friday we did the modified beep test as a training, but today was the actual fitness testing. I am proud of my results because they showed improvement but at the same time I still want to aim higher and get better results.
on the beep test I ran until 7.5.(improved)
I held the plank for 1:04 which is basically the same as last time.
on the balance board I got 9 touches in 30 seconds.
my stand and reach scores are still the same- 35. (stand- 215. jump-250.)
on the T-test I got 12.56 seconds which is basically the same as last time.
My flexibility still hasn't improved so I am hoping to show improvement for next time.
and I have not improved in my upper body strength because I can still only do a couple push ups.
I want to focus on working on my flexibility and upper body strength because I really want to see improvement in those areas. I hope to also get a higher score on my beep test and really push myself. I am setting a goal for myself to stay active over the winter break so that my results can maintain and improve for our next fitness testing.

Keeping fit in Florida

Exactly one week ago from today, I was in Florida along with 23 other students from our school. I was given the opportunity to travel abroad to learn about science and see how science is used in a favourite place of many -Disney! Although I missed 3 gym classes, I feel like I didn't miss out on the active and fit part. We were in Florida for 9 days, and I can honestly say that after every day, my feet hurt. We walked about 15 km a day, probably more because the disneyworld parks are HUGE. We were constantly on our feet, running from each attraction to the next one, and even wearing running shoes our feet were still sore! My calf and hamstring muscles were also a bit sore during the trip, so although it seemed like a "vacation", it wasn't. All 24 of us were exhausted by each end of the day. Ms Becker kept track of how much she walked throughout the trip, and it was 105.6km! I unfortunately did not keep record, but I am thinking it was close to that and probably even more. Overall, I had an amazing experience and am proud that we weren't lazy; these trips require you to be fit so that you can accomplish everything!

Beep Test #2 Results

Today for fitness Tuesday we did the beep test.
I am actually proud of my scores this time because I showed improvement.
I know I still have room to improve and I hope to keep progressing positively.
I got a 7.1 on the beep test today which I think is pretty good for myself. (improved)
I improved my time on the plank from 45 seconds to 1:03.97
on the T-test I got 12.59 seconds.
(I have pictures but they are loading blurry)
for sit and reach, I am still a 0. I am flexibile in other areas, but I hope to improve the flexibility in my hamstrings/legs.
for stand and reach my scores were the same, (standing-215. jump-250.)
I need to work on my upper body strength because I can only do a couple pushups.
Unfortunately, I could not do the touch test on the balance boards.
I think I did fairly well this beep test, and I hope to have more improvements next time!

Fitness Reflections (Week Oct. 27-Oct 31)

I forgot to post about last weeks fitness, so here is my post:

Last week we had fitness 2 days in row. On the Tuesday, we did the workout where we have partners and one of us runs, one of us does an exercise in the gym. I am proud of my effort that day because I was sweating by the end of it. On Wednesday, we had the option to do either the community run or the sulli mile with the linear classes. Our class wanted to do the community run, but my friends and I were able to do the scottish/sulli mile with the other classes. We had just done the extended community run 2 weeks before that and we aren't big on running so we thought that was a fine alternative. Me, Gurveer, Lyba, Jasmin, Rajan, and Megan tried hard to set an example for the 8s and 9s since we were the only seniors there. We kept our steady jog the whole time and I was also happy with our effort that day; I feel like we got a good amount of time jogging. I am glad with my progress and hope to continue to stay positive this semester!

Here is a picture of us from Tuesdays fitness day where we did the partner excerise. You can't really see our flushed/sweaty faces in the picture, but trust me we were!

Weight room workout

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=X663kXIufZI

This is the workout video I chose for today's workout. This video targets toning the thighs and the glutes. I really want to build muscles in this area, and I hope that these exercises can help me achieve that.

Fitness Reflections (Week 2)

This week, we did the pond run and hill sprints for our two fitness days. For the pond run, I think I did a good job because I ran/jogged every time we were supposed to and kept going for the whole minute. There was maybe 1 or 2 runs where I fast walked/light jogged, instead of running because I got a cramp, but other than that I am fairly proud. Towards the end, I definitely can say that I felt tired and I was starting to slow down, but I tried to keep a good pace throughout the whole run. For the hill sprints, I feel I did a good job on that too. I kept a consistent pace and always ran up the hill. Even if my friends were faster than me, I kept a good pace and made sure to not stop halfway. I definitely felt my legs burn after a couple laps after I reached the top, however I still pushed my way through and finished the activity. I am happy with my fitness this week and hope to continue this till the end of the semester.

PE 10 first post (Beep Test results)

Our first fitness testing was on Friday,  September 26, and we did the beep test. I got a 6, and I feel like I can do better , because I have gotten up to 9 before.  I guess I am not very fit at the moment because I wasn't as active as I would have like to been over the summer, but I definitely feel that I can improve from this score. I am a 0 on the flexibility, and can hold the plank for 45 seconds. On the stand and reach, I am at 215, and when I jump I hit a little bit over 250.  Unfortunately, I did not get to complete all the tests because I was actually helping some of the grade 8's out with their tests and showing them what to do (it was their first ever fitness). Next time, I hope to have more results to update and probably will because not as many grade 8's will need assistance.

Final Report Card Assessment

The year is over already! It has definitely been a long year, and I'd like to say that I am proud of how much improvement I have made in my physical activities. First, I will organize my post from the pillars that Mr. Vaughan suggested.

Pillar 1: Participation: I feel that I am doing well in this area because I always particpated in the activities we did in gym. I attended classes regularly, and have always had a change of strip so that I did not have to limit myself. I admit that on some days I did not want to put in effort or maybe just wanted to stand around, but I have learnt from that and I hope that next year I will be able to catch myself when I do that. I hope to push myself to try my best every single day, even if its a choice day.

Pillar 2: Social Responsibility and Contribution to the Class: I always try to contribute to the class by being a leader and taking initative. I help put away cones and balls after games, as well as help with the volleyball nets and other things. I am always available to help, and try to jump in without being asked. For example, today, after our capture the flag game, I volunteered to retrieve the flag which was on the other side of the school without being asked. I am always honest with my fitness scores on days such as the beep test, because honestly lying does not benefit anyone. I am also honest with how I am involved in the community and outside of school. I do not do much outside of school, however this year I have really learnt the importance of it. I hope that I can volunteer within my community more because that's something I enjoy, and also join some groups and activites at some local rec centres.

Pillar 3: Healthy Living: This area is really important me. It's great if you do good in PE, but if it doesnt impact your life outside of school at all; than it doesnt really mean anything. This is something i've really realized the importance of this year, and hope to improve on as time goes by. I always try to eat healthy, and I actually really love healthy food. I feel much better after eating a healthy, well-balanced meal, rather than after eating Mcdonalds. For my fitness, I feel that I have been improving. For my beep test scores, I started off the year with somewhere around a 6, and on our last beep test I got a 7.7. There is definitely an improvement there, but too bad we couldnt have another one for my final fitness testing. When I participate, I obviously have restrictions. I try to get over these barriers that are decreasing my success in fitness. I sometimes get tired and try to find ways to minimize my participation, but I have been working on that and hope to stop that habit! I have definitely started to connect PE class to life as I've started going on jogs with my friends! (see previous post) I hope to become more actively involved in the summer and really embrace a healthy lifestyle!

Pillar 4: Digital Portfolio & Reflective Skills: I admit I am lacking in this area. Mr. Vaughan told us we don't have to have as many posts as Mr. Neufield expects in his outline, but I do feel I could have blogged more. I don't have too much digital evidence of my fitness throughout the year, but I can talk about it now. First Semester I wasn't as active as I am now. I took swimming lessons for majority of first semester, but I did not end up blogging about it. Second semester I feel is where I really started to think about my fitness. I joined dance class at school which I put in a lot of hard work and effort too this semester! I think my hard work showed as we performed our year end show on the friday, where many people see our performances. I was really proud of that and I can see lots of improvements in myself as a dancer! I also joined dance outside of school and that went well also. I of course do recreational activites all year with friends and family, for example whenever I see my cousins we usually shoot hoops or play some football. My friends and I are always looking for something to do, and I know in the winter I went to teen skate almost every friday night! I hope to become more active during the summer and also for next year, and hopefully record more digital evidence next year!

Overall, I've had a good year. I definitely see improvements in my fitness. I know that I wasn't perfect all the time and of course there were times where I slacked off, but I always tried to stay positive. I like to stay motivated and bring a positive aura to class to maybe help my friends. I had fun this year in PE, trying out new activites with my class and working hard to improve my fitness. I think I deserve an A for this year, because I am truly proud of how I did. Its going to be sad not having PE all year next year in grade 10, because I really enjoy PE helping me stay active throughout the year. I'd like to thank Mr. Vaughan for always encouraging us to do our best, and never giving up hope! I hope to always be an active learner and always work to improving my fitness!

Summer Jogs

Now that the weather has been warm and the sun has come out, I have actually went on a couple jogs with my friends! Two of my best friends and I have gone jogging around our neighbourhood three times now, and I am proud to say that I am actually enjoying it. I am glad I have my friends to motivate me to ditch my comfy couch and chips and actually get up and do some physical activity. I actually went for a jog today with my friend Natasha, and it was for about half an hour. I really enjoyed it because we had fun and are keeping fit! I'd like to make these jogs a regular thing, especially since its summer. I am glad that this year's PE has motivated me to become more physical outside of school! Looking forward to more fun jogs with my friends.

heres a photo of me and Natasha from today!

Community Run Reflection

Today we did the community run for our fitness in P.E. I got off to a good start and jogged up the hill, and then made my way to goldstone and across the field in about 12 minutes. I thought that was good timing because I was aiming for a time in the high twenties. However, after I crossed the the field my spring allergies began and I got a huge headache. I also started feeling tired and I wasn't as motivated as I was during the first half. I honestly didn't feel very well, which is why I slowed down during the second half. I got 37 minutes, which I am not proud of but I hope to do better next time! I don't understand how people have only walked and gotten 35 minutes because I honestly did jog and run, and not just walk the whole way. I really want to work on my endurance and hope to see some improvements by the end of the year. Adding that to my list of goals I hope to achieve!

Active Learning Mid-term Assessment

I feel that I keep progressing positively as the semester goes by. I always try to bring a positive aura to class. I always have appropriate attire for gym, and if I dont I do not use it as an excuse to get out of gym. I always look forward to gym because I have so many of my friends in my block. Its fun to play class games with them, and also get to know some other people in different grades. I enjoy doing fitness days with my best friends because they distract me from thinking about how tired I am or what I would rather be doing if I feel unmotivated. I also like participating in volunteer events. In a couple of weeks, I will be going to Disneyland in California for a leadership retreat along with student council and some other students from this school. I am really excited to develop my skills as a leader! I am also helping Mr. Vaughn by volunteering my day to work with bases students. I enjoy being in student council and giving back to the school. Overall, I am happy about my work habits in P.E, as well as my extra curricular participation. I am hoping to achieve an A this semester in P.E, and I hope that I can continue my success as an involved individual!

Active Learning Assessment (Work Habits)

I feel my work habits have been very good this year. I always bring my P.E strip and have appropriate shoes. I may not always have full motivation and may feel like slacking off some days, but I try my best and try to improve each time. I want to work hard and to make those number of days where I feel like slacking off, lessen. Because of these things, I think I deserve a G for my work habits.

Semester-End Assessment

This semester in physical education I am pretty proud of myself. I feel I have been improving each fitness class and I will continue to increase my endurance as we continue on with the year. I really want to increase my fitness levels and my stamina. I try to come to class with a positive attitude and be enthusiastic about activities. I always bring change of strip, and attend classes with the exception of excuses. I surround myself with my friends and people who motivate me to try my hardest. I definitely feel that I have improved since the beginning of the year, and hope to keep improving. I try to eat healthier and think twice about what I am putting into my body. I want to learn more about my body and work on my strengths, and develop my weaknesses.

One of my main goals that I wanted to improve was my flexibility. I find exercises and stretches and do those at home to help me achieve this goal. I can't say I have reached this goal yet, but I have seen improvements and I am determined to get there. Another thing I have been working on is my upper body strength. I will have to admit I am not as dedicated to this goal as I am to the first one, but I definitely do want to achieve this. I hope that in semester 2 I can focus a bit more on this goal and hopefully see some improvements by the end of the year! I really want to work hard and build muscles but some days I feel I have lack of motivation. I really want to work on that, however, and find something to motivate me to try my best.

For second semester, I also hope to become more of a leader within the class dynamic. I want to try and be more of an example for the grade 8's. I will try my best not to complain about certain activities even if I don't enjoy them as much. I want to see a better change in my health and fitness and I know if I have a positive mind set I can accomplish this target.

Because of these things, I think I deserve an A. I am really putting in the effort and participation to improve in P.E. I want to maintain these work habits so that I can see even more success and improvement by the end of semester 2. I definitely want to become more fit and try my best.
